Kalamazoo Log Cabin Quilters (KLCQ)
Artist Statement
The Kalamazoo Log Cabin Quilters were officially organized in October 1979 with just 6 members and now represented by 130+ members. The group is diverse in age as well in all walks of life, possessing various levels of experience and the love to encourage and assist new quilters.
Some members have won awards in both national and international quilt competitions, and several members have been featured in national quilt publications.
The KLCQ members meet on a monthly basis. National quilt artists and/or authors are invited to conduct classes and lectures. Workshops and lectures by KLCQ members are occasionally featured. The most popular segment of the general meeting is “show and tell” which allows the opportunity to see each other’s work.
In addition to quilting for their own projects, members donate their time and materials each year in making lap size and bed size quilts for various organizations such as hospices, shelters, nursing homes, etc. In addition, members make small quilts that are wrapped around a stuffed animal for children in crisis (referred to as “Lovies”).
For example, in June 2025, 60 quilts were donated to the Seita Scholars Program at WMU and 106 lap size quilts were donated to the Area Agency Aging of Kalamazoo County. In November 2025, 344 Lovies were donated to local organizations.
Meeting Information: 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7PM (doors open at 6:15PM)
