Sydney Thompson – WMU Student Exhibit

Artist Statement

Sydney Thompson is an artist, metalsmith, sculptor, and student working toward her BFA at Western Michigan University in the Frostic School of Art. She is based out of Grand Haven, Michigan, and has been working with metal since 2018. Sydney’s work explores ideas dealing with nature and vitality as well as concepts of memory, family, and struggles with disorders. She uses patinas throughout most of her work as a way of completing works and showing specific moods. She has studied at the Hephaistos Summer School in Athens, Greece and her work has been shown around Michigan, Indiana, and California.
