Jacqlynn Patterson
Artist Statement
Jacqlynn Patterson’s work explores the intersection of memory, emotion, and place. Born and raised in Florida, she developed an early connection to the colors, landscapes, and atmosphere of the Gulf Coast. Her experiences living throughout the United States and traveling to places such as the Caribbean and Thailand continue to shape her visual language. Rather than representing these places literally, she allows them to emerge through memory, imagination, color, and symbolism, creating work that feels both familiar and dreamlike. Formally trained in oil painting, Patterson spent many years working in acrylic and now primarily works in watercolor, gouache, and mixed media. She is drawn to the balance of control and unpredictability these materials offer. Whether exploring coastal imagery, animals, figures, or the theatrical world of circus and carnival performers, her work suggests stories beyond what is immediately visible, inviting viewers to bring their own memories and emotions into the experience.
