The Great Outdoors: A Celebration of Public Art

Spring is here, and Michiganders are ready to go outdoors! The May Hop will highlight our ever-growing vibrant public art collection and the beauty of nature that surrounds it. Official Art Hop stops all around our community will offer opportunities to view outdoor murals, sculptures, and installations. Artists will be sharing their love of nature through the arts and there will be a special public art tour by Lynn Houghton.

For the July Art Hop, we celebrate the Black Arts and Cultural Center’s Black Arts Festival – a special, annual event that has been a must-attend Kalamazoo summer celebration since 1986. The July Hop will offer a variety of offerings at Official Art Hop stops all over Kalamazoo County and launch us into the weekend Black Arts Festival celebration in Downtown Kalamazoo.
SEPTEMBER 2024: Resilience
Resilience – Vehicle and Voice

Resilience is the process and outcome of successfully adapting to challenging life experiences through mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility while adjusting to external and internal demands. Throughout history, the arts have been a vehicle, a voice in supporting us through these life experiences. On September 6, 2024, we dig deep inside ourselves to bring light to the narratives in all of us.

At this year-end Art Hop, we take a reflective look at our year and prepare to usher in 2025 with a refreshed sense of knowing and creativity.

Get Involved with Art Hop!
Register as an Artist or Venue
Individual artists, arts organizations, and businesses can apply online to show their work. There is no cost to participate. You will be asked to provide photos of your work, an artist bio, artist statement, and links to your social media and/or website, if applicable. Click on the date below to register for that month’s Art Hop.
(Example November 5th is the deadline for December 6th’s Art Hop)
Be a Volunteer
We are seeking volunteers to help out during Art Hop, as well as with event set-up and clean-up. Volunteers may be asked to carry signage or do other physical labor, so any unique needs should be noted on the volunteer sign-up form.
