Brendan Barnes
Artist Statement
Brendan is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture, digital media, acrylic painting, and poetry. Brendan’s visual work utilizes symmetry and other devices as a structure for creating emotionally evocative abstract compositions with vibrant colors. Brendan’s visual work and poetry are preoccupied with themes of mystery and the practice of being absorbed in the present moment. Brendan introduces ways to live in undefined spaces where all things are experienced as fresh and possible. Brendan’s work often brings up the question “What is it?” in the mind of the viewer. The work refuses to be adequately defined and answer this question for the viewer. Instead, Brendan draws the viewer into deeper and deeper states of wonderment and towards a greater appreciation of our ultimately mysterious and beautiful reality.
