Marcio Curvelo
Artist Statement
Marcio Curvelo developed a love for photography early on in life. He now specializes in underwater photography, as well as equestrian, travel, and portraits.
“For nearly half a century I’ve been passionate about photography. My early memories involve me as a little boy running around with my dad’s Super 8 camera making movies. That evolved into my first borrowed camera from Grandpa. A Yashica rangefinder, which coupled with a makeshift photo lab in my parents’ basement, further sparked my art.
At the age of 15, I became a professional photographer working with a local shop, photographing weddings, graduations, and events. That led to a job at the local newspaper for which Iphotographed the social column and sporting events. Eventually, I figured I needed a more conventional job and became a radiologist. Still taking pictures but with a different kind of camera.
I’ve been very fortunate to travel the world and take photos of amazing places. More recently, my photography was married to another passion of mine, scuba diving. A lot of my photographic work is now underwater.”
