Laura Cathcart
Artist Statement
A native of Kalamazoo, Laura earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from Eastern Michigan University. The majority of her work is in abstract oil painting, dry point prints, and beaded jewelry. Several of her pieces have been displayed in the West Michigan Area show over the years and her work has been displayed in a number of venues around Michigan. She is a board member of the Kalamazoo Art League and has served as chair of hospitality for the past six years. “I want my work to evoke a feeling in everyone who experiences it. I try to infuse movement and emotion into each creation. I am greatly influenced by the colors, shapes, intricacy, and simplicity of the natural world. My goal is to reflect at least a little bit of that in my work.”
