Christie Chew-Wallace

Artist Statement

Christie Chew-Wallace creates strong, dynamic images. She does so instinctively, and even when attempting “delicate” work, the finished piece results in a strong, “in your face, “work of art. Imaginary thought comes easily to her; a blank canvas holds no anxiety or mystery. She paints in many styles because so many subjects, styles and mediums interest her. So, she does not choose, instead going from different subjects and mediums as she pleases. In his studio, he converts his pen drawings into colorful and playful finished paintings, using the fast-drying oils that he favors. His true subject matter is the aesthetic elements that compose the identifiable components in his paintings. Charles has worked in numerous public, private, and corporate collections. He experiences great joy in the picture-making process and hopes that the viewers of his work find some of that joy too.
