Brush the Block Community Public Art Project, Imagine That!

Artist Statement

The Community Public Art Project, Imagine That!, is a Louise Nevelson inspired project which was created and beloved during the 2025 Brush the Block Mural Festival.

Participants explored found objects and wood pieces, glued them together in a sculptural form and painted their pieces with water-based spray paint.

The theme “Imagine That!” invited our community to dream big and create freely. It’s about using imagination to explore new ideas, reimagine the world around us, and bring creative visions to life.

Whether playful, hopeful, or visionary, this theme celebrates the power of art to express what’s possible when we dare to dream. These 3D sculptures were revealed in an installation for the Brush the Block Closing Reception on Sunday, September 7 at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.

Imagine That! is now on display inside the main corridor of Kalamazoo City Hall and will be celebrated for the November 7, 2025, Art Hop, 5-8PM. Participating artists may come pick up their artwork contributions the night of Art Hop and any time before 5pm on Monday, November 10.
