Eric Strader

Artist Statement

Eric Strader’s love for clay began as a child, in his grandfather Stanley Kellogg’s pottery studio, which was located in Petoskey, Michigan. After receiving a degree in clarinet performance from Western Michigan University, Eric studied ceramics at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. He and his wife relocated to Goshen, Indiana where he apprenticed with Dick Lehman and established himself as a studio potter. He now resides with his wife, three donkeys, cats and chickens on his wife’s family farm in Plainwell, Michigan, where he also works in his studio. His work includes functional as well as one-of-a-kind pieces that have been featured in many invitational and juried exhibitions as well as art fairs throughout the Midwest. Each pot is hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel. After applying a combination of glazes and firing to approximately 2300 degrees F, each pot is ready for use. All glazes are lead free and each pot is safe for use in the microwave, dishwasher, and oven.
