Jose Velarde-Chan
Artist Statement
Jose Velarde-Chan is a cartoonist and sculptor living and working in the Kalamazoo area. His 2D work is generated using pencils and markers, as well as digital tools. The resultant images tend to consist of original characters and autobiographical or abstract themes. Jose’s 3D work is typically mixed media, which is used to explore the impact of Western, Consumer and Post-modern culture and human suffering on the individual.
