Lanessa Miller Studio
Artist Statement
Lanessa Miller shines a spotlight on musicians with her debut Kalamazoo exhibit. Music Appreciation features lively, colorful depictions of performers and local nightlife as witnessed by an outsider. Lanessa scrambles to capture the magic in the air with her acrylic markers at the Clover Room, SugarBowl, Bell’s Eccentric Cafe, Old Dog Tavern, and other local venues. When the moment has passed and select scribbles are set aside, she recalls the energy by blasting the relevant artist and projecting clips onto the canvas as she paints more detailed mixed-media work in her studio. Lanessa’s animation experience informs her fine art, and she moves forward with renewed graphic clarity in response to her environs. She’s based in Battle Creek and combats the influence of generative AI art with sheer humanity and bodily presence.
