Hannah Gregus

Artist Statement

Hannah Gregus is a visual artist based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She studied at Lansing Community College before transferring to Savannah College of Art and Design, where she graduated in 2010 with a BFA in Illustration.

After several years of working for others and making art during evenings and weekends, in 2022 she made the decision to work for herself as a full-time artist. And in 2023, she created her art business, Hann of the Wood.

Her illustration style is lightly humorous, aiming to amuse and delight with her whimsical characters. The abstract work she produces celebrates shape, color, pattern and attention to detail. It allows her to freely paint without overthinking. Hannah mostly paints with watercolor and ink, preferring the vibrant colors and ability to layer, but she enjoys creating with all sorts of materials.

Growing up in the quiet countryside of Michigan instilled in Hannah, a love of nature and a passion for gardening. When she is not creating, she can be found in her garden tending to her plant family or trying to sneak up on toads.
