Babette Burleigh
Artist Statement
Growing up in a small Michigan town, Babette found great joy in traveling across the United States and eventually expanding those travels around the world throughout her career. Today, photography serves as a way to share that joy by creating unique images from both above and below the ocean, at home and abroad. Babette enjoys engaging in conversations about these experiences, offering unique perspectives from the ocean, and learning about the places others have visited or hope to explore. Her work centers on immersion, observation, and viewing the world through a different lens.
Babette strives to witness, share, and respectfully participate in the environments she photographs. Each image reflects a personal journey and serves as an invitation to pause, look more closely, and discover the beauty and value in the surrounding world. In addition to photography, Babette serves on the Board of Directors and fosters puppies for Paws with a Cause, based in Wayland, Michigan. The organization’s mission is to transform lives and strengthen communities through partnerships with custom-trained working dogs.
