Brent Harris

Artist Statement

Brent is an artist an educator who believes strongly in the role of art as storytelling device. His public commission works include business magnate and land owner EK Warren of Warren dunes, a joyous dancer in Taylor, Michigan, memorial for Eric Zapata, a Kalamazoo public safety who is killed in the line of duty and a cherished baseball coach for Western Michigan University. Brent believes the role of public  art should evolve with the culture and no longer be used to entrench institutions of power in public spaces as has been the case for generations. He himself has continued to evolve and learn from the joys and controversies of being a public facing community member.
