Artist Statement
BLOOM is a collection of digital collages centered on the intersections of vulnerability, hip-hop, nature, and Black masculinity. In each of these photos are Black men in hip-hop culture who have passed on at a young age. Flowers are meant to provide peace and protection in the afterlife. It also serves as a reminder of their own humanity and is an embrace of softness that is often missing in the roughness of hip-hop culture.
