Claire Taylor – WMU Student Exhibit
Artist Statement
“Recently, I have been exploring themes of feeling trapped in your own environment. The idea that the places you live and work, the people you surround yourself with, and the area you are familiar with can slowly suffocate a person as they grow stale. I explore this through mixed media figurative works that are layered on either physically with texture or visually through paint. Furthermore, I use saturated, contrasting colors to create a tension that provides a sense of perspective towards the figure’s inner turmoil.”
