Ellen Vandermyde
Artist Statement
Ellen VanderMyde’s art practice investigates “looking” as a dialogue with her surroundings, focusing on liminal spaces and visual ephemera. In her work she explores semi-autobiographical themes of memory and identity, as well as her close relationships to people and places. Constructed from a combination of drawing from memory, snapshots and other source materials, then painted with semi-transparent layers of acrylic, her work takes on a saturated, dream-like quality while employing hints of narrative and symbolism. Through this process, she creates her own language of visual poetry imbued with subtle emotion.
