Erin Mashni

Artist Statement

Erin Mashni’s work traces the arc of an inner life shaped by attention, intuition, and a shifting emotional response to the world around her. She sees her practice as a quiet, meditative act of self-care through which she is able to explore history, politics, popular culture, and the natural world across mediums. Combining realistic subjects with layered abstract backgrounds, she uses bold color, humor, and visual storytelling to express whatever is on her heart, piques her curiosity, or makes her laugh. The diversity of Mashni’s subjects and mediums reflects a deep commitment
to experimentation, curiosity, and creative freedom. She believes art can serve as a space to question authority, celebrate identity, engage with difficult ideas, and find moments of joy. In this way, her practice participates in a longstanding American tradition of free expression—one that values diverse perspectives, spirited inquiry, and the freedom to imagine new possibilities.
