Fire First Friday Open Mic
Artist Statement
Fire’s First Friday Open Mic is the longest-running Open Mic in Kalamazoo, and now the state of Michigan. We are the only sober, youth-centered space where youth can come and perform in a social setting. Youth come from all over the county for an emotional and sometimes raucous night to share their songs, poems, comedy skits and even theatrical routines. Fire collaborates with artists throughout the Kalamazoo Community and former Fire youth to uplift artistry, inspire intergenerational community building, and centering youth voices in the space! We host First Friday Open Mic events every first friday of the month. Our doors open at 5:30pm and the show starts at 6pm and ends at 8pm with the feature performance happening around 7pm.
