Jacqlynn Marie Patterson

Artist Statement

Jacqlynn Patterson is a fine artist whose practice investigates memory, perception, imagination, and the shifting boundaries between reality and fantasy. Raised in Florida, her work is informed by the color, light, and visual landscape of the Gulf Coast.

Patterson studied at Ringling College of Art and Design and the University of Louisville. After more than two decades working primarily in acrylic, she returned to watercolor and gouache, using their fluidity and transparency to develop a more exploratory approach to image-making. Her work incorporates figuration, symbolism, nature, and constructed imagery to examine personal experience through altered and imagined environments.

Her current practice includes After the Performance, a series exploring gesture, movement, and the expressive potential of the figure through imagery drawn from circus, carnival, and ballet. The work considers the figure beyond the stage, shifting attention from spectacle and performance toward the atmosphere, emotion, and quiet moments that remain after the performance has ended. She is also developing a shadow-box drawing that examines absence, reflection, and perception, as well as The Island of My Own Creation, an ongoing body of work exploring the relationship between memory, place, and imagined landscapes.
