Jean Carter
Artist Statement
Jean uses whimsical designs, creating unique artistic creations using food to textiles, ‘as I doodle.’ Place of survival. Jean Carter’s curiosity for being creative was evaluated from her youth. As a child, she would use her grandmother’s Simplicity tissue paper patterns, as her first medium to draw pine. She would look at the Vogue envelopes as a guide, thinking to herself ‘when I grow up, I will be just like them,’ designing and coloring with great inspiration and imagination.
Jean is a multimedia artist from Elkhart, IN who has been using whimsical designs of nature to purposefully re-purpose over the past 12 years. Creating artsy-fartsy one-of-a-kind unique pieces of art for her viewers’ delight. Her inspiration has evolved from taking artistic pointers from preschoolers to say oops, where there are no mistakes in art. Because children are organically free to color outside the lines. Using new and used items as she doodles from a space of survival, Jean can take any object, from food to textiles to bring creativity into a purpose with vibrance and life.
