Jean Stevens
Artist Statement
Inspired by 30 years of diving and snorkeling, coral reef paintings by Jean Stevens share the mystery and wonder of the underwater world. Nature and art journeys have taken Jean Stevens to coral reefs, rainforests, deserts, mountains, bushland, and savannahs, in addition to the Michigan woods and waters that inspire much of her art. She received an MFA in painting from Western Michigan University, and worked as a museum exhibition designer for 30 years. She has maintained a studio since 1998 in the Park Trades Center in downtown Kalamazoo.
