Jutta Wilberding

Artist Statement

For Jutta Wilberding, the forge isn’t just a workspace: it is quite literally a legacy. Every piece she makes is part of a tradition of hands-on craft, of fire and iron shaped by patience and intention, and she thinks of herself as one link in a much longer chain of makers who came before her. That’s the spirit behind everything she does at Combat Ready Art, where the anvil and hammer aren’t relics of the past, but tools she keeps very much alive.Teaching is at the heart of it all. For Jutta, you can’t really separate passing along a skill from practicing it yourself — the forge only stays alive if the knowledge keeps moving from hand to hand, generation to generation. Every class she teaches is as much about building that connection as it is about the technique. And she never lets mastery mean standing still. Jutta’s always experimenting — trying new techniques, pushing familiar materials into unfamiliar shapes, treating every project as a chance to learn something new. That curiosity is what keeps her work evolving, and it’s what she hopes every student walks away with: the idea that skill isn’t a destination, but a practice you keep choosing, over and over, at the forge.
