Oscar Contreras
Artist Statement
Based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Latino photographer Oscar Contreras finds beauty in the places and moments that are easy to overlook. His work is rooted in a simple act of paying attention—watching the light change, noticing a landscape, or pausing long enough to see something familiar in a new way.
Through photography, he explores the quiet relationship between people, place, and the natural world. His images are an invitation to slow down and look closer, to find wonder in the ordinary and recognize the beauty that exists just beyond our attention.
At the heart of his work is a desire to create connection. By bringing overlooked moments into focus, he hopes to awaken a deeper sense of appreciation for the world around us—and, ultimately, a desire to protect what is beautiful, fragile, and worth preserving.
