Sean & Lacy Wallace
Artist Statement
Garland House Studio is comprised of Kalamazoo artists Sean and Lacy Wallace, both graduates of Kendall College of Art & Design. Using the traditional drawing, painting, printmaking, illustration, and ceramics techniques they were formally trained in in conjunction with contemporary tools, GHS strives to have the artistic flexibility to make any creative concept a reality. Their current focus is two-dimensional works using graphite, colored pencil, watercolor, gouache, oil, acrylic, and digital media, as well as creating custom glass etchings for decorative or functional purposes.
Working both individually and as a couple, Sean and Lacy’s professional resume prior to starting Garland House Studio includes set design, fine art commissions, murals, portrait photography, glass etching, performance art/live comedy, children’s book illustration, cartooning/caricature for events or via commission, art education, graphic design, as well as the occasional gallery feature.
Having moved back to Kalamazoo from Grand Rapids, MI in 2020, The introduction of Garland House Studio (a very literal namesake), also represents Lacy and Sean’s re-introduction to Kalamazoo’s artistic community. While always looking to increase exposure through online sales and social networking, the city they grew up in is very important to Lacy and Sean, and as a growing family they look forward to playing a role in continuing to enrich Kalamazoo’s creative culture.
