Artist Statement
Paul May produces polychromatic wood turnings; that is, the process of segmented wood pieces constructed into a crude form that is refined by turning the amalgamation on a lathe. The process involves gluing several pieces of various woods of different colors to create patterns and visual effects in turned projects. His work is primarily focused on this form of art. Paul’s work was recently accepted into the 2023 Kalamazoo Institute of Arts West Michigan Area Show and has won the 2023 Portage Community Art Award.
