Artist Statement
Shawn Brownell is the owner of The Potted Plant and resides in Kalamazoo, MI. He creates functional pottery that is meant to be used and appreciated in everyday life. His work is guided by clean and simple forms. The surface decoration reflects Shawn’s constantly-evolving sense of graphic design. Balance, composition, and visual rhythm seek to enhance each piece without overwhelming its function. The studio is more than a place to make pottery – it is a place to connect with others. Shawn is inspired by the shared encouragement and exchange of ideas that he sees around him. His work is a celebration of the creative community.
