Artemis Kyrke

Artist Statement

Artemis’ work is an exploration of the delicate interplay between external information and internal experience, reflecting how we interact with the world around us. Coming from a neurodivergent perspective, these pieces resonate with a universal audience, inviting viewers to consider the unseen processes behind perception and understanding.

Working with a diverse range of materials — oils, soft pastels, loose pigment, charcoal, mica powder, pumice gel, and plaster-thickened gesso — textured surfaces are created that evoke emotional depth. In their paintings, colors embody feelings and emotions; circles or dots represent individual thoughts; and curly lines trace the evolving patterns formed by thoughts and feelings before they fully take shape. Their subject matter focuses on the in-between space, that fleeting moment before a thought or action is fully realized. They are drawn to scenes that allow for sustained gazing without overwhelm, creating a calm space within the complexity of experience. Inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere, depending on what stirs their senses in the moment. The technique is intuitive and tactile: They draw by feel rather than sight alone because visual stimuli can feel overwhelming. Artemis uses whichever medium feels right at the time, allowing the process to remain fluid and responsive. This approach makes their work unique, capturing the subtle emotional and cognitive landscapes that exist beneath conscious awareness and inviting viewers into a sensory dialogue with the invisible patterns of thought and emotion.
